Wednesday 9:30am-10:45am Rocket Yoga with Kate

Rocket Yoga reorganizes the disciplined Ashtanga yoga system into a playful, dynamic, accessible and energetic practice. Credited as the original power yoga, The Rocket was developed by Larry Schultz in the 80s while touring as the yoga teacher for The Grateful Dead. Practice begins with breathwork, Sun Salutations and standing postures, then progresses into creatively-linked arm balances, inversions, backbends and spinal twists to invigorate and awaken the nervous system. For students looking to be challenged in a playful way. All-levels welcome.

Kate began her yoga journey in 2013 while recovering from the trauma of losing a parent, ending a marriage and climbing her way back from postpartum depression after the birth of her third child. Unlike many yoga teachers, Kate’s yoga journey didn’t begin in a studio, but instead it began when she started focusing her energy more towards a life of inner peace, growth and responsibility.

This work began with an intense self study that continues to be a large part of her yoga practice today, yet at the time, she had no idea she was studying yoga.   She was reading spiritual texts and studying self-help guides & mindful living philosophies & techniques.  Around this same time, she began seeking out & opening up to new forms of exercise to help cope with the stress, fear and sadness that had been building up over the years.  To offset her love of mountain biking, her brother suggested she give yoga a try. And in 2014 she stepped onto her mat for the first time. She found herself enjoying the practice and wanting to learn more as she started to notice a positive shift in her body and mind.

She began her yoga teacher training in 2017 and quickly discovered a common thread between the traditional yogic teachings and the information she had been researching & studying over the past few years. She realized for the first time that the new age science and spirituality that she found so much growth & helpful knowledge in, during her most difficult times, were actually rooted in the ancient science and teachings of yoga. As her teacher training came to an end, Kate was determined to take the information she had gathered and share it with others in hopes to inspire their own personal growth.  Unlike the majority of yoga teachers at the time, she was guided to begin teaching the mindfulness and meditation practices of yoga instead of asana.  So she started a coaching practice that she is still passionate about today.

It wasn’t until she began regularly practicing “The Rocket”, that she felt a calling & really, a responsibility to include asana as part of her teachings.  She discovered that through The Rocket practice, she was not only gaining strength, courage & unconditional love for herself physically & emotionally on the mat, but that these lessons followed her off the mat as well. For the first time in her life she was seeing fewer obstacles and more opportunities for limitless possibilities on her journey.  She is grateful for all she has learned and looks forward to sharing this practice w others to help them find the same light within themselves that she has discovered within herself.

She welcomes all levels of yoga practitioners & intends to guide her students through a fun, challenging, yet rewarding experience.  Come to her class open to your true potential & possibilities on the mat, as well as off the mat & she promises she’ll do her best to assist you to get to where your going!
